Network Mission

The Emerging Leaders Network seeks to support those who hope to advance their leadership in the field of arts education. We work to strengthen community arts education by cultivating a next generation of leaders that is equipped to transform the field in new, innovative, and inclusive ways.

Affiliated Network members will receive invites to all in-person and online events, leadership opportunities within the Network, access to all Network resources, and more.

Ambassadors

Tarah Ortiz Durnbaugh

Performance Programs Manager, Urban Gateways, Chicago, IL

Tarah Ortiz Durnbaugh has been part of Urban Gateways and the field of arts education since 2007. Her arts background spans many disciplines, including over two decades of dance training and a theatre degree from Northwestern University. Outside of her responsibilities as the performance programs manager, she shares her passion for the arts with students as a dance instructor and choreographer, and as the artistic director of the Kaleidoscope Krew youth hip hop companies. Tarah is a proud ensemble member and choreographer with Be the Groove, a Chicago rhythmic performance ensemble, and company member with the legendary Joel Hall Dancers.

Sabrina Malik 

Manager of Institutional Giving, Groundswell, Brooklyn, NY

Sabrina Malik joined the Groundswell team in April 2017, bringing over 10 years of experience in fund development, administration, and youth development. Malik previously served as grants manager at the National Guild for Community Arts Education, where she created and managed a comprehensive development plan and implemented database-driven strategies. Her prior experiences in the arts hail from a variety of settings, both in the U.S. and abroad, including an art park, studio, gallery, teaching guild, private collection, and museum. Malik holds a  BFA in art history from Syracuse University, and is currently completing a capstone for her MA in arts administration. She is also a practicing artist, currently working with textiles and focusing on process and color.

Examples of past Emerging Leaders Network events include: 

  • Navigating Organizational Change as an Emerging Leader: Held at Groundswell (Brooklyn, NY), this event examined frameworks for understanding organizational change and provided tools for emerging leaders to play an active role in shaping their organization's life cycle.
