The Music School offers programs at branch locations in Wilmington and Milford and at over 25 satellite and outreach locations in Kent, Sussex and New Castle counties. 

Job Summary

The Music School of Delaware seeks a versatile El-Sistema-trained violin/viola teacher for a full-time salaried position with benefits. MELODY (El Sistema) Department Head position is inclusive of instruction, supervision, planning, and administration for/of the Music School’s MELODY program (Music Enriches the Lives of Delaware Youth).  We welcome diversity.



Department Head oversees a program that currently includes 2 sites, as well as 1 full-time and five part-time staff. Music School teaching could include violin, viola, musicianship, general music, and/or orchestra instruction in the Music School’s MELODY program and in the school’s general programming.  Department Head will also be assigned up to 8 teaching hours at one or more of the school’s branches, satellites or outreach locations. 

Job Qualifications & Requirements

Minimum: Bachelor of Music in education or performance.Preferred: Master of Music in education or performance.Teacher must have received training in the El Sistema philosophy and be established in the El Sistema community. Preferred: 3-5 years of El Sistema teaching experience and leadership.Suzuki and/or Early Childhood training a plus.
