About Our Organization
Founded in 1908 Settlement Music School, a non-profit organization, is one of the largest community schools of the arts in the United States serving children and adults of all ages at six branches located in South, West and Northeast Philadelphia, Germantown, Willow Grove, Pennsylvania and Camden, New Jersey. Settlement provides over $2 million dollars each year in financial aid and scholarships to fully 60% of its students. Settlement’s reach is broad, and it continues the principles of its Founders, that there be no barriers to participating in music and arts education.
Position: Children’s Choir Accompanist – Piano
Settlement Music Schools seeks an accomplished pianist with extensive accompanying experience to work with our Gleeksman-Kohn Children’s Choirs. Strong sight-reading skills and the ability to perform a variety of musical styles is required. The accompanist must attend all performances and rehearsals as scheduled as well as have timely communication with the choir director.
Required rehearsals at our various locations are as follows:
Willow Grove Branch Monday 5:00PM – 6:45PM
Wynnefield Branch Tuesday 5:00PM – 6:45PM
Germantown Branch Wednesday 5:00PM – 6:45PM
Mary Louise Curtis Branch Friday 5:00PM – 6:45PM
Monthly rehearsal at the Germantown Branch Saturday 2:00PM – 4:00PM
Job Qualifications & Requirements
Candidates should have previous choir accompanying experience. Bachelor of Music in Piano preferred.
Candidates must be able to sight read intermediate choir repertoire, have the ability to run the choir through warm up exercises, and the ability to follow a conductor at a very high level.
