Community School of the Arts (CSA) is a non-profit arts education organization serving children and youth in the visual and performing arts. CSA provides high-quality instruction in music, theatre, dance, and visual art to children and youth of all ages and levels.  Our mission is to develop confident leaders and outstanding citizens through educational and artistic excellence.  As we continue to build our reputation of excellence in the arts, and continue to develop programs, we are seeking an individual who can serve in an important role.  

Job Summary

The Assistant Director of CSA will oversee the development and implementation of the day-to-day operations.  He/She will report to the Executive Director and will coordinate operations with the Office Administrator. Communication and passion, along with strong organizational skills are at the core of this position. 

The ideal candidate will have experience managing and overseeing arts programs for children and youth. He/She will have experience working with faculty in a variety of arts disciplines, office staff, parents, and students.  The candidate will have an understanding and appreciation for the arts plus a history of leadership in a non-profit organization.  Preference will be given to the candidate who has a background in music and in particular, piano. The Assistant Director will possess excellent communication and leadership skills and must be able to oversee a very busy work environment with multiple tasks. The candidate must also be able to network with the community and identify potential families for CSA programs.  Strong verbal and written skills are very important.

Responsibilities

Requirements 

  • A minimum bachelor’s degree in an arts field, master’s preferred.  A masters degree in piano is a plus.  Work experience in the areas of music, theatre, dance, and visual arts.
  • At least 5 years of leadership experience
  • Team builder, highly organized and possessing excellent customer service/communication skills
  • Ability to work independently, exercise good judgment and take initiative.  Skills in problem-solving, negotiation, tact, and diplomacy important.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily operations
  • Assist in the supervision of programs and services that support the CSA mission
  • Oversee daily budget and financial needs
  • Coordinate details with the CSA staff daily
  • Assist in the supervision of faculty and faculty needs
  • Ensure security and maintenance of the CSA facilities
  • Assist faculty in developing new programs
  • Network with the community to market CSA programs
  • Assist in fundraising events
  • Oversee current show sponsors
  • Oversee and assist in all marketing materials
  • Assist with ticketing and Box Office events
  • Assist in coordinating recitals and other events
  • Assist in the development of the CSA master calendar
  • Assist in hiring new faculty and other personnel and maintaining policies and procedures
  • Coordinate faculty payroll with the Office Administrator
  • Teach private lessons as time allows – preference given to piano instruction
  • Facilitate professional development opportunities
  • Coordinate both outreach classes and off-site residency programs
  • Develop assessment and evaluation measures for CSA faculty and programs
  • Write and research grants as needed
