Marcia Wood, co-founder and former executive director of Trenton Community Music School, was recently honored at the YWCA Princeton 2016 Tribute to Women Awards Dinner. The award recognizes women of excellence who live or work in the greater Princeton area, and who have made significant contributions in their professions and communities.

According to YWCA, "Marcia’s love of music, children and Trenton, as well as her organizational skills, finally came together in the formation of the children’s chorus and the [Trenton] community music school. Changing young urban lives through music has been her focus and passion these past 25 years."

About Trenton Community Music School

The Trenton Community Music School (TCMS) was established as a non-profit community music school, offering affordable music training to the children and adults of the greater Trenton community. With an enrollment of 200 at the end of its sixth year, TCMS offers individual and group lessons in piano, strings, woodwinds, brass, percussion and voice. Early Childhood Classes for youngsters aged 0 - 6 are also offered. Outreach programs serving an additional 700 students bring Music for the Very Young into daycare centers and string instruction into elementary schools in the city.  Funding provided by foundations, government grants and hundreds of individual donors enable TCMS to provide generous financial aid and scholarships.
