The recently released Wallace Foundation-commissioned report, Something to Say: Success Principles for Afterschool Arts Programs from Urban Youth and Other Experts, is based on market research, interviews with experts, and observations of exemplary programs from across the country. Fleisher Art Memorial's Fleisher Youth Art Programs (Philadelphia, PA) and SAY Sí (San Antonio, TX) are among the eight exemplary programs featured.

The report offers 10 principles for attracting and retaining an audience often thought of as “hard to engage”—low-income urban students. Students interviewed were clear about what they want in afterschool arts programs, and interestingly, researchers say, their preferences align with what experts said make for great arts programs, like Fleisher and SAY Sí!

Download the report and watch videos, including one about SAY Sí, here.

The Guild will be conducting a free webinar on Thursday, November 21, 1:00PM - 2:00PM ET, to discuss the findings of the report. Register now.

About Fleisher Art Memorial
Fleisher is a source of inspiration, creativity, and community.  Every year, more than 17,000 people experience the transformative power of art by participating in our studio classes, exhibitions, and community based programming.  They are a nonprofit organization committed to advancing the vision of their founder, Samuel S. Fleisher, who believed that art is one of society’s greatest assets and equalizers, and from the doorway of his Graphic Sketch Club, “invited the world to come and learn art.”
