Minnesota Opera was announced as a part of the first cohort of organizations to receive a Seeding Artful Aging grant from Aroha Philanthropies. The funds will be used to support initiatives at the Opera that bolster creative aging in the community.

According to Aroha, “Artful Aging programs inspire and enable older adults to learn, make and share the arts in ways that are novel, complex and socially engaging.”

About Minnesota Opera

For over 50 years, Minnesota Opera has been dedicated to producing opera and opera education programs throughout the state. Annually, thousands of students of all ages participate in a variety of education programming such as lectures, classes and demonstrations. Expanding the typical in-school residency model, the company organizes community-based residencies each year that include multiple partner organizations such as the K-12 schools, community orchestras, choirs, theaters, and senior centers among others. For young musicians ages 8-18, Project Opera offers high quality vocal training. Each year the students perform a fully-staged, age-appropriate opera. In addition students perform as our children’s chorus on our main stage. Over the summer students continue their training with our residential camps held on the campus Shattuck-St Mary’s School. Minnesota Opera has created Music Out Loud, an opera-based El Sistema-inspired program that is designed to teach all the aspects of the art form of opera. Once fully developed, students will learn singing, acting, movement, stage craft, and set and costume design. MO believes in leveraging the skills and resources of the entire company to connect with our all of our neighbors.
