For the 19th year, FOCUS St. Louis, a regional leadership organization, is presenting a series of awards to exemplary St. Louis-based organizations. Awards are given in each of five categories: Demonstrating Innovative Solutions, Fostering Regional Cooperation, Improving Racial Equality & Social Justice, Promoting Stronger Communities and Responding to Community Needs and Entrepreneurs. Jazz St. Louis has been honored in the Demonstrating Innovative Solutions category.

Speaking on behalf of FOCUS, Becky Rasmussen, director of marketing and communications, notes that Jazz St. Louis “fulfills an important role in inspiring the next generation of jazz musicians and fans.” They have also “exposed youth to jazz music at its annual Youth Concerts, brought nationally renowned artists to perform at schools and provided individual and small-group training through its JazzU and Artist Residency programs.”

More recently, Rasmussen says, Jazz St. Louis has also “expanded its offerings through innovative partnerships and approaches, using the music to develop life skills like teamwork, leadership and responsibility.”
