This past weekend, students from the Colorado Conservatory of Dance's (Broomfield, CO) composition class, along with the young writers program at Lighthouse Writers Workshop, presented the world premiere of In the Along: Revolutions of Young Writers and Dancers. The presentation was the culmination of an inter-disciplinary partnership between the two organizations. Both organizations believe in the transformative power of art and conceived the collaboration of young writers, choreographers, and dancers who work closely together to create original works of poetry and dance.

"We feel it is a natural fit to offer artists the opportunity to gain inspiration across disciplines and to offer the community the chance to experience their work in a live performance," states Colorado Conservatory of Dance's CEO and artistic director, Julia Wilkinson Manley.

The students from both organizations were broken into pairs or small groups to work together to create a dance work solely designed and created by them from beginning to end. The pieces vary in style and concept. All of the pieces include spoken or projected word.

"Working with dancers raises the stakes for the writers. To put your words inside someone else's body, those words must be clear, purposeful, and really mean something," said Megan Nix, Lighthouse's Youth Program Director.
