Colburn Launches "Learning at Colburn" Lecture Series

The new Learning at Colburn lecture series launched on Thursday, March 8 with Dr. Aniruddh Patel discussing the hidden scientific connections between instrumental music and speech.

Research into the neuroscience of music and language in recent decades has revealed fascinating relationships between these two modes of human communication. Dr. Aniruddh Patel, a preeminent thinker in the neuroscience of music, will discuss these relationships, considering such topics as the overlap between brain processing of tonal and harmonic structure in music and the processing of linguistic syntax, and how the rhythm of a composer's native language is reflected in instrumental music.
