« Back

Oct 14, 2011

On October 14th, the Cleveland Orchestra and Conn-Selmer, Inc., awarded 30 students brand new violins to use in the inaugural year of the El Sistema@Rainy program. The students received the instruments during a special ceremony, which served as the official kick off of the program.

El Sistema@Rainy will provide 10 hours of weekly group instruction and educational support to 30 children in Cleveland ages 1-4, with plans to expand to more students in the following years. Young musicians will also have opportunities to perform on stage at Severance Hall, participate in master classes with Cleveland Orchestra musicians, and have daily contact with Cleveland's world-class music community through formalized collaborations with Cleveland's musical assets. The program is led by Cleveland Orchestra violinist Isabel Trautwein, who serves Artistic Director of El Sistema@Rainy.
