On October 15, 2012, Young Audiences New York (New York, NY) announced the appointment of B.J. Adler as the organization's new executive director.
Adler is a strong advocate for the transformative power of the arts in education, and no stranger to Young Audiences, having served as the national network's first director of education from 1989 - 1999. As founder and principal partner of the consulting firm Vision Emerging, she served as a certification consultant for Young Audiences Inc., the special projects consultant for the National Art Education Association and a coach for the Education Leadership Institute of the National Endowment for the Arts. Her firm has been involved with numerous arts and education organizations as a special projects consultant. She has mentored nonprofit arts education professionals and has been a motivational and keynote speaker in the area of creative development.
Well known for her visionary leadership, Adler pioneered the creation of Arts Partners while serving as executive director of Young Audiences of Kansas City in the mid 1970's. The ground breaking initiative, then known as Learning Through the Arts, championed the use of artists and community arts resources as powerful educational tools and was successful in bringing the first U.S. Department of Education grant in the arts to three urban school districts in the Kansas City area. The program became a model for the Young Audiences network.
"B.J. is a dynamic arts administrator who is well-known for her inspired work in the arts education and cultural sectors," said Robert Riesenberg, board president of Young Audiences New York. "I am confident that B.J. will bring new vitality to our organization that will impact the lives of New York City children, excite our donors and make Young Audiences New York the arts education organization of choice in the City."
"I am exhilarated by Young Audiences New York's commitment to expanding its impact and reach in service to our City's kids and the New York City Public Schools," Adler said. "There is a critical need in our schools for curriculum that inspires and engages students and prepares them for a rapidly changing world full of challenges and opportunities.  There is no more important work. I believe the arts and the rich resources we have available in this City can be a key that can unlock future potential in all of our kids."
