At its recent meeting, the National Guild’s board of trustees voted to appoint Kyle Carpenter, CEO, MacPhail Center for Music, as an interim trustee. Carpenter’s permanent status on the board will be decided by a Guild member vote at the 2016 Conference. “As CEO of MacPhail—one of the nation’s oldest and largest community-based music schools—Kyle has had a profound impact on the reach of the organization, including its ability to impact rural communities in Minnesota through online learning,” said Jonathan Herman, Guild executive director. “As a board member, Kyle will bring a vast expertise in digital learning environments, innovative business practices, and organizational leadership.” Carpenter previously served as senior vice president for strategy and business development for Capella Education Company. In this role he established the company’s first-ever growth venture, Sophia Learning LLC, a social media teaching and learning website. Carpenter is an accomplished guitarist and he received his Bachelor of Arts in Management Science from Duke University.
