Sep 14, 2012

National Guild Executive Director Jonathan Herman has been appointed to represent the National Guild on the newly established Boys & Girls Club of America (BGCA)’s National Advisory Council for the Arts. The Advisory Council will provide direction, guidance, and leadership for the development of a new national arts initiative for BGCA. It will assist in the creation of a multi-year “Arts Learning Plan,” to be developed by the end of 2012. Herman has been appointed to serve on the Council along with other national arts education and
youth development experts such as award-winning playwright and performer Will Power; Arts Corps executive director Elizabeth Whitford; Grammy award winning singer, songwriter, and record producer Rafael Saadiq; and others. The Council is also comprised of representatives from within the BGCA movement, including Club staff, alumni, and governing leadership. Together Council representatives will respond to research findings; help identify best practices; share knowledge and expertise in the areas of arts learning, youth development and out-of-school time; provide input into the design, implementation and assessment of a new BGCA arts initiative; and identify and evaluate potential partners. The Council’s first meeting was this September in Atlanta, GA."
