A recent article in the Boston Globe, “Here’s why you should send your kid to an arts camp this summer,” highlights the diverse benefits that arts summer learning opportunities can offer youth. The author argues that, even as arts programs are rolled back or defunded in public schools across the country, summer offers a crucial opportunity to expose young people to extended arts learning.

“Camps encourage the kind of collaboration, innovation, and problem solving that you don’t get in school anymore,” says Bette Bussel, executive director of the American Camp Association’s New England chapter. “That goes for arts camps especially, which allow kids to make mistakes and build resilience.”

The article goes on to highlight the strategies used by organizations such as Beam Camp, Med-O-Lark, Buck’s Rock Performing and Creative Arts Camp, SOCAPA, and others.
