This week Congress passed a tax deal as a short term fix to the fiscal cliff. Spending cuts and tax reform will continue to be debated over the coming months as Congress searches for a more long term solution, so advocacy efforts at this time could make a huge impact.

The "American Taxpayer Relief Act of 2012" has varied results for charitable giving, and therefore varied implications for the nonprofit sector and the community arts education field. Though the bill protects communities from the most dramatic caps to charitable deductions that were under consideration and reinstates the IRA Charitable Rollover provision, it also includes a reinstatement of a more modest limit to all deductions for higher-income earners.
