Nov 20, 2017

Last week, Senate Appropriations Chairman Thad Cochran and Senate Interior Appropriations Subcommittee Chairman Lisa Murkowski rejected President Trump’s request to shutter major cultural agencies by restoring FY 2018 funding to $150 million for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) and the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH).

According to the Americans for the Arts Action Fund, “Arts Action Fund members sent a record number of 187,115 e-mails to Congress this year to #SAVEtheNEA and it worked. These emails and the many personal visits to every Member of the House and Senate helped to secure the $145 million allocation first in the House on July 18th and the $150 million allocation today in the Senate. We now turn our efforts back to the House in order to persuade key appropriators to accept the Senate’s higher funding allocation for the arts and humanities during upcoming conference negotiations to arrive at a unified appropriations bill next month.”
