This past August the House Appropriations Committee halted its FY14 budget debates for the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA). This left a proposed 49% cut to funding for the NEA unresolved. This proposed decrease, from $138.4 million to $75 million, would mean the lowest funding for the NEA since 1974. Conversely, the Senate Interior Appropriations Committee has recommend $154.4 million in funding for the NEA's FY14 budget, which constitutes an 11.6% increase in funding.

The new fiscal year begins October 1, so now is a vital time to contact your members of Congress and urge them to support increased funding for the arts. Click here to access Americans for the Arts' user friendly online form.
