SNAAP Release Annual Report on Arts Alumni

« Back

Dec 06, 2017

Each year, the Strategic National Arts Alumni Project (SNAAP) releases an Annual Report that details new data gathered on arts alumni and their involvement with the field. In 2015 and 2016, over 65,000 arts alumni participated in the SNAAP survey from 84 postsecondary institutions and 6 high schools in North America.

Notably, “Over six in ten (67%) arts alumni surveyed by SNAAP currently work in the arts in some capacity; that is, they are an artist (56%), teach art (28%), and/or administer a business or organization in the arts (19%). Many alumni work in more than one role in the arts. Of the 67% of alumni who work in the arts, 42% are only artists, 9% only teach art, and 5% only manage or administer a business or organization in the arts.”

The study also shows that, compared to the general public, arts alumni are significantly more involved in the arts in their communities. “Among the surveyed adults, 39% had attended a visual arts event or activity in the past year, and 34% had attended a performing arts event or activity.”
