Parker-Brass on Building Vertical Pathways for Arts Students

Myran Parker-Brass, executive director for the arts for Boston Public Schools and National Guild trustee, recently published an article on ArtsBlog looking at how arts organizations are creating future pathways for students. Given that state plans and the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) identify career and post-secondary readiness as an indicator for school quality, “how prepared are we, the arts education community, to engage in this discussion? Are we building solid college and career pathways in the arts with our higher education partners, institutions and employers?"

The article goes on to detail how Boston Public Schools (BPS) has worked with the Massachusetts College of Art & Design (MassArt) to build deeper connections between arts programming and future careers. They have developed collaborative curriculums, scholarship opportunities, training programs, and resources for staff and faculty working with underserved populations.
