New Resources: Strategies for Engaging the New Workforce

The Young Nonprofit Professionals Network (YNPN) has released Good in Theory, Problems in Practice, a report which puts to the test popular wisdom regarding what keeps younger talent in the sector. YNPN polled over 1,100 emerging nonprofit leaders from across the country, asking for their response to five common recommendations for what nonprofits should do to develop and retain effective and vibrant young staff.  The recommendations include:

  • Offer more competative compensation
  • Invest in building "bench strength"
  • Engage in inclusive succession planning
  • Prioritize diversity
  • Move away from traditional organizational structures and chief executive roles
