The National Assembly of State Arts Agencies has released a report on appropriations to state arts agencies in fiscal year 2018. The preliminary data suggests that while state funding to arts agencies varies considerably across the country, total appropriations to state arts agencies are expected to increase by almost 5%.

Importantly, “State budgets on the whole are displaying considerable caution following years of slow growth since the Great Recession of 2007-2009. According to the National Association of State Budget Officers, 33 states are expecting revenues to come in under FY2017 projections, which not only caused 23 states to make net midyear budget reductions, but also has influenced the cautionary estimates for FY2018 spending.”

The report also shows data on how much money is appropriated to each state arts agency per capita. The highest per capita budget is in Minnesota, with $6.35, while the lowest is in Kansas with $0.06.
