NAS Launches Free Course on Innovation in Cultural Sector

National Arts Strategies, in partnership with Vanderbilt University, has launched an online course entitled Leading Innovation in Arts & Culture. The free, eight-week course is designed for leaders at arts and culture organizations that are looking for new tools to generate innovative ideas and instill an organizational culture of experimentation and risks.

Developed by David Owens at Vanderbilt University and customized for the cultural sector by National Arts Strategies, Leading Innovation in Arts & Culture will teach arts and culture professionals how to make an "innovation strategy" a fundamental component of an organization's overall strategy. In the course, participants will learn to:

  • Analyze constraints on innovation in their organization
  • Develop a process to manage the demands of multiple stakeholders, shifting priorities and the uncertainty inherent in new initiatives
  • Create a culture for innovation and risk-taking
  • Create a strong customer focus within their organization
