The Jack Kent Cooke Foundation announced last week the twenty recipients of their Graduate Arts Award. These twenty emerging artists will receive as much as $50,000 per year for up to three years to study at an accredited graduate institution in the U.S. or abroad. The award, now in it's fourth year, recognizes and rewards America’s promising up-and-coming artists from lower-income backgrounds with the nation's leading graduate scholarship in the visual arts, performing arts, and creative writing. The program received three hundred and twenty applications and portfolios from students in forty-one states and the District of Columbia.

“We believe that society is enriched through art and our most exceptional artists should be able to develop and share their talents, regardless of their financial means,” said Vice President of Programs Emily Froimson. “By removing a financial obstacle, our award will allow these students to focus on studying and honing their crafts.”
