Chicago Arts Partnerships in Education (CAPE), in partnership with Chicago Public Schools, has completed their Partnerships for Arts Integration Research project. The project found striking gains in student achievement and teacher growth through arts integration. The results arrive at an actual demonstration of cause and effect with four key outcomes emerging:

  1. Arts integration closes the achievement gap while supporting academic excellence
  2. Arts integration raises standardized test scores
  3. Teacher engagement in arts integration improves student performance
  4. Varied assessment measures provide a fuller understanding of student learning

The research project took place over the course of four years through a Department of Education grant program. It brought teaching artists together with fourth, fifth, and sixth grade classroom teachers to research the impact of arts integration on students and teachers.
