On Monday, April 2, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) Commissioner Jack Buckley will release Arts Education in Public Elementary and Secondary Schools: 1999-200 and 2009-10. The Congressionally requested report, undertaken by NCES and the Office of Innovation and Improvement, resulted from a national survey of principals and teachers of the arts concerning such issues as: the extent to which students receive instruction in the arts; the conditions under which arts instruction is provided; the facilities and resources available for arts education instruction; and the preparation, work environments, and instructional practices of music and visual arts specialists and non-arts classroom teachers.
