Sep 14, 2011

ArtPlace, announced on Sept.  14, is an unprecedented private-public collaboration between eleven of America's top foundations, the National Endowment for the Arts, and seven federal agencies. This nationwide initiative is designed to drive the revitalization of cities and towns with a new investment model that puts the arts at the center of economic development.

ArtPlace believes that art, culture, and creativity expressed powerfully through place can create vibrant communities, thus increasing the desire and the economic opportunity for people to thrive in place.  ArtPlace periodically awards grants to organizations doing groundbreaking work in creative placemaking.

Concurrent with the announcement of the new consortium, ArtPlace announced their first round of grants, investing $11.5 million in 34 locally initiated projects in cities from Honolulu to Miami. They also initiated their second funding cycle. A letter of inquiry has been posted and submissions may be made through November 15, 2011.
