Image for Afterschool Alliance Releases Updated ESSA Toolkit

Jan 26, 2017

The Afterschool Alliance, an organization that supports affordable, quality afterschool programs, notes that the Every Student Succeeds Act will not only alter the K-12 education structure, it will also provide new opportunities for states to elevate the importance of afterschool learning. Given this new possibility, they have shared an updated ESSA toolkit that provides information on the law, materials to help advocacy efforts, and a detailed map that gives information on the progress of state plans.

Ideally, the toolkit can serve as a starting point for those who want to pressure their state and local lawmakers to draft an education plan that provides robust support for afterschool learning, including arts education. Users can keep track of what state advocates across the country are doing to influence their state plans.

Learn more about the toolkit and access it here.

For more information on ESSA and what arts educators can do in the coming year, watch the Guild’s recent webinar, Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA): What it Means for Community Arts Education led by Jeff Poulin from Americans for the Arts.
